WHAT BEING BIODEGRADABLE MEANS

Being biodegradable means that, under the right conditions, the degradation results from the action of naturally occurring microorganisms.

Biodegradation tends to be most easily achieved in a compost setting, where optimal conditions for degradation exist.

Supporting Families Protecting The Planet From Plastic Waste

We’ve improved our wipes so that all Canadians can protect their family, and the planet from plastic waste without compromising efficacy.

Eliminating Plastic Waste

Our new innovative biodegradable and compostable wipes with plant-based fibers will do just that, reducing plastic waste in Canada every year.

Gone In Weeks

Our biodegradable disinfecting wipes will decompose in as early as 6 weeks in home compost subject to environmental conditions.

HOW TO DISPOSE OF OUR WIPES

MUNICIPAL COMPOSTING

Lysol® has and continues to engage multiple municipalities and stakeholders to obtain the broadest possible acceptance of our plant-based biodegradable and compostable wipes.  For now, we recommend that you reach out to your local municipality before putting the wipes in the green bin to ensure they have the appropriate facilities. Composting is strongly recommended, but if you do not have access to appropriate facilities to facilitate biodegradation outside of a compost stream, briefly rinse the used wipe under running water before disposal in the trash.

Check Locally

Our wipes are compostable in home and municipal compost settings according to ASTM D6868. If you are unable to access an appropriate home compost option as outlined above, consider municipal composting.  Before disposing of the wipe in a municipal green bin, contact your local municipality as appropriate facilities may not exist in your area.

If your municipality does have appropriate facilities, you most likely only need a green bin or green cart to participate.

Composting is strongly recommended, but if you do not have access to appropriate facilities, to facilitate biodegradation briefly rinse the used wipe under running water before disposing in the trash (as per ASTM D5511, with a >90% relative biodegradation).
